Gostkowski was named Pro Bowl for the second consecutive season in 2014

The New England Patriots announced that they are utilizing the franchise designation on kicker Stephen Gostkowski.

There’s word that New England is taking a look at a developmental kicker who didn’t play college football, but has some experience on the gridiron. I’d be stunned, though, if incumbent veteran Stephen Gostkowski’s job were in jeopardy. Yes, he had one of his least impressive performances last season, but overall, he’s still a great kicker. I’m willing to wager that whatever plagued him in 2016 has been rectified and he’ll respond with a strong 2017.

The New England Patriots announced today that Stephen Gostkowski has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week following the Patriots Week 1 win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Another newcomer to watch might provide a challenge to kicker Stephen Gostkowski, according to an ESPN story today. Apparently, the Patriots are considering looking into a younger kicker who didn’t play college football, but briefly played professional soccer in Europe.

The Patriots issued the following statement on the use of the franchise tag: “Stephen has been extremely productive and a vital component to our success since joining our team in 2006. Utilizing the franchise designation allows both sides more time to try to reach an agreement, which is the goal.”
Gostkowski was named to the Pro Bowl for the second straight season in 2014 and for the third time overall since joining the team as a fourth-round selection in the 2006 NFL Draft out of Memphis. He led the NFL in 2014 with 156 total points. Gostkowski also led the NFL in points in 2008, 2012 and 2013, becoming just the third player to lead the NFL in points in at least four seasons. He has connected on 86.8 percent of his regular-season field goal attempts since entering the NFL (243-of-280), the best field goal percentage in Patriots history.
Gostkowski became the Patriots’ all-time leading scorer in the win vs. Miami on Dec. 14 and now has 1,179 career points. He was 35-of-37 on field goals in 2014 for a 94.6 field goal percentage, the highest field goal percentage in a single season for the Patriots.

We all know the Patriots kicker has a flare for the dramatics on the field with reliable foot and clutch field goals, but Stephen Gostkowski has been practicing a new kind of theatrics this offseason. According to NFL.com, the Patriots utilized their franchise tag before the deadline this afternoon by placing it on kicker Stephen Gostkowski.

The Associated Press announced its annual All-Pro team on Friday and the Patriots were one of five teams with two players selected. Tight end Rob Gronkowski and kicker Stephen Gostkowski game jersey were the New England players who made the first team.

Stephen Gostkwoski has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Patriots’ 26-10 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. It is the second time this season and the fifth time in his career that Gostkowski has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. He earned the award for the first time in 2016 following his performance in the Patriots’ Week 1 at Arizona. Gostkowski has also been named Special Teams Player of the Month three times – October 2008, October 2009 and September 2015.

Gostkowski was 4-for-4 on field goals in the win over the Rams, including three field goals of 40 or more yards (48, 45 and 45). It marked the third time in his career that has mas been successful on three field goals of 40 or more yards in a single game. He also made three kicks of 40 or more yards vs. Arizona on Sept. 16, 2012, and most recently at Buffalo on Oct. 12, 2014. Nate Solder is known around the NFL as being a role model in the community. From his volunteer efforts to he and his wife Lexi’s willingness to share their family’s battles, the Solder family is seen for their kindness and perseverance.

Not unlike current left tackle Nate Solder, McDermott began his college career as what he called “a skinny tight end” weighing around 235 pounds. He revealed to reporters on a conference call that he now hovers around 315 pounds, and, like Solder, was once a stellar schoolboy basketball player. So, too, should the return of left tackle Nate Solder.

For his devotion to helping others and the inspiring strength he shows in tackling obstacles both on and off the field, Nate Solder has been named the New England Patriots 2016 Ed Block Courage Award winner, the team announced today.

Malcolm Butler is the best corner guard for the team

We take a look back at Malcolm Butler’s 2016 season and offer our predictions for 2017.

There’ve been two major stories surrounding the Patriots this past week: the re-signing of linebacker/co-captain Dont’a Hightower to a four-year pact and cornerback Malcolm Butler’s open flirtation with the New Orleans Saints.
While Hightower, too, paid visits to a few other NFL clubs before ultimately deciding to remain with New England, Butler is in a different situation and his future remains uncertain.

The New England Patriots announced that they have signed restricted free agent CB Malcolm Butler and exclusive rights free agent TE Matt Lengel. Terms of the contracts were not announced. In addition, the Patriots released OL Tre’ Jackson.

The former Pro Bowler and Super Bowl hero is now under contract for 2017 at a salary of $3.91 million.
But, the signing also, as ESPN alluded to, opens the door for a potential Butler trade. The cornerback visited the Saints earlier this offseason and New Orleans has made it quite clear it still has interest in the fourth-year cover man.

It is known by all the contribution of Malcolm Butler during his 3 years with the Patriots. A player who came as a free agent rookie and became the best cornerback of the team, a key piece and hero of Super Bowl XLIX where he was the author of the interception 20 seconds from the end that meant winning the fourth championship for New England.

According to a report from the Associated Press, Patriots restricted free agent cornerback Malcolm Butler is set to visit the Saints later this week.

I understand Malcolm Butler’s representative is a lawyer with no experience with professional athletes. Do you think the situation with Malcolm Butler elite jersey would have turned out any different if he had an agent with experience?

I know next to nothing about Butler’s agent Derek Simpson but I haven’t seen or read anything that would lead me to believe he’s been a problem. Butler is a restricted free agent and therefore has every right to talk to other teams and gauge his value. To this point Simpson has given no indication that Butler intends to hold out or miss any time, so I’m not sure why anyone believes the agent has done anything wrong. He believes his client is worth more money than the Patriots have offered – and since we can only go by reports and don’t have the information with any level of certainty – and there’s no reason to suggest he’s wrong. So to answer your question I’d say Simpson is doing everything he can to keep Butler’s options open, which is probably a wise course of action. It seems Malcolm Butler and the Patriots are on the same page once again. According to an ESPN blog post, Butler is back in town for offseason workouts with the Patriots, after it seemed he might be shipped out of New England earlier this offseason.
“Disappointment over not receiving a lucrative long-term extension won’t be a factor in his making a full-fledged investment to the club in 2017,” the story goes on to assert.

It’s pretty common for it to be said that someone was born for a certain job. But, when it comes to Patriots sixth-round pick Ted Karras, that description is almost a literal characterization.

Rookie WR Malcolm Mitchell recently made a guest appearance on patriots.com’s web video series “Magic Moments” with magician John Duke Logan. Mitchell was so awed by Logan’s tricks that he showed the video to fellow rookie Jacoby Brissett. The QB was skeptical, though, but it just so happened that Logan, a patriots.com web assistant, was in the locker room at the time and began performing tricks for the two players. Soon, they were joined by rookie o-lineman Ted Karras, veteran running back LeGarrette Blount, and several members of the media.

Ryan Allen won the AFC player for the second time

The New England Patriots announced that they have signed restricted free agent CB Malcolm Butler and exclusive rights free agent TE Matt Lengel. Terms of the contracts were not announced. In addition, the Patriots released OL Tre’ Jackson.

They are contracts teams use to sign players who are not on NFL rosters to finish the prior season in order to get them under contract for the upcoming year. For the most part they are used for teams to lock up guys from their practice squad for the following season. They are technically reserve/futures contracts that don’t actually begin until the new league year – which is March 9 for the 2017 season. But sometimes they are used to bring in veterans early in the process who for whatever reason aren’t under contract with a team, as was the case for the Patriots in the past with Dion Lewis and, this year, tight end Rob Housler.

Bennett’s apparent departure (he’s yet to sign with another club as of 10:30 a.m. Eastern Thursday) leaves a bit of a void on New England’s tight end depth chart. The Patriots currently have Gronkowski and Rob Housler under contract. Housler signed a future contract last month, which takes effect starting at 4 p.m. today. But the Patriots reportedly sought to address Bennett’s impending departure by trading with Indianapolis for veteran Dwayne Allen.

Peterson’s nickname was derived from his time spent as a high school and college running back, first in Palestine, Texas and then at the University of Oklahoma. It refers directly to his one-time ability to play and to run the ball “all day” long, something he basically did pre-injuries while with the Minnesota Vikings.

Still, even after his ACL and MCL reconstruction, Peterson was named the NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year in 2012, nearly topping Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing mark with 2097 yards on the ground, while averaging six yards per carry. He’s led the league in total rushing yards three times, and in average yards per game four times.

Lenmgel, 25, originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals out of Eastern Kentucky on May 8, 2015. The 6-foot-7, 266-pounder, was released by Cincinnati on Sept. 5, 2015 and spent his rookie season on the Bengals practice squad. Lengel began the 2016 season with Cincinnati and was released at the end of training camp before being signed to the practice squad on Sept. 4, 2016. Lengel played in 37 games during his college career at Eastern Kentucky and registered 33 receptions for 361 yards.

“I actually didn’t get overwhelmed with that,” said tight end Matt Lengel, who’s appearing in his first Super Bowl. “I’m glad I didn’t have to say ‘no’ too many times.”
Some players, like running back LeGarrette Blount, leave such uncomfortable responsibilities to others in his family.

Ryan Allen has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week by the National Football League for his performance in the Patriots’ 27-0 victory over the Houston Texans last Thursday. It is the second time in Allen’s career that he has received an AFC Player of the Week Honor. He also won the award following his performance in a 2014 Week 14 win at the San Diego Chargers.

Allen punted seven times for 333 yards (47.6 average) and placed six of his punts inside the opponent 20-yard line. He placed punts at the 11, 10, 10, 14, 5 and 4-yard lines while limiting the Texans to zero punt return yards. His only punt that did not land inside the 20 was downed at the 20-yard line. Ryan’s previous best was five punts inside the opponent 20-yard line on Oct. 6, 2013, at Cincinnati. Allen, whose longest punt covered 60 yards, and the Patriots’ coverage unit yielded only two punt returns for seven yards.

Most Sundays, Ryan Allen hits the field at Gillette Stadium, but on Saturday, Ryan got to see the game from another vantage point: the stands. Two football worlds collided for Ryan as his alma mater Louisiana Tech played UMass on the turf he now calls home in the NFL, and he wasn’t going to miss a chance to see his former team in action.
